I have a 2000 Toyota Camery Solara that started making a squeaking/creaking noise when I release the brake pad. The noise is coming from the passenger side rear drum brake. What would be causing this noise? Could it be the pads or possibly the brake release springs?

If the noise occurs when you are releasing the brake pad and only at that time, then the most probably cause is the brake shoe is rubbing against the backing plate due to rust. If the squeaking occurs as long as the brake is being applied then the brake shoes/drums need to be inspected.

I have the same problem on my Honda Civic. Will this problem cause any damages on the brake?
