I had an oil change done on 12/27/09 and the shop receipt says that 4.4 quarts of oil was put in my car. 22 days and 1450 miles later driving back from southern cal from vacation my oil light went on. I had my car towed because I had no oil and the AAA driver told me the cylinders were shot. We checked the dipstick and the engine was bone dry. Later that day the shop confirmed there are no leaks, and the shop I have it in now says there are no leaks anywhere either.

They do say there is some sludge buildup. Is it possible for 4.4 quarts of new oil to dissapear after 1450 miles because of some sludge buildup? Ive asked 3 different mechanics and the AAA driver and they all have said that they believe the oil was never replace especially since its a newer vehicle and there are only 77,000 miles. I need some advice please. Thank you.

Take your claim with the place that claimed to replace oil in your car. A sludge forms when either the car is not driven much or it has not had its oil change for a long time. If the oil does not leak it either burns up in the engine or mixes with other fluids through a bad gasket. Check other fluids for oil contamination. Is it possible that the oil change place just forgot to refill the engine with fresh oil after it drained the old oil out.
