Hi, I have a 1979 Toyota FJ40 landcruiser with a 2F engine, mileage unknown exceeds mechanical limits. My brake pedal is extrememly hard to push and even when I do the vehicle does not slow down quickly. I brought it in and was told that the brake booster is bad. Problem is that this part is no longer available either as a new part or as a remanufactured part. What do you recommend as a suitable replacement if any? It is a dual diaphragm and I have disc up front and drums in the rear. I am thinking that I could perhaps use an entire master cylinder and booster from some other vehicle but I have no idea what might work. Since mine is no longer available I would like to switch it out for something a little newer and easier to get if I ever need to go this route again. Thanks for any help/advice you can give.

Bob,

I was just on advance auto parts website and it stated that the website had the dual diaphrapm brake booster reman from cardone without the master cylinder for 182.99. Hope this helps.

Gary,
I spoke with Advance and they do not have any available in their entire system and it does not show availabilty from cardone. I spoke to cardone in PA and their customer service told me that they do not have any in stock any more and could not give me any date when they might be available. I asked if it was discontinued and she said she believes that it is no longer made. Thanks for checking though.

Sorry that they did not have any. Have you checked the other parts stores? I will do some research on the internet to see if I can find someone that maybe overhauls them for you if you send your to them.

I just contacted the local auto zone here in Jacksonville and he said that they have the dual diaphram power booster for $139 plus an $84 core with a lifetime warranty so you should be able to get. He said that if you ordered it today you would get it by Wednesday. Hope this helps.
