1983 Toyota Cressida Fuel pump location

Trying to locate the fuel pump has become a mistery. It is not where the crappy manual I have says it is (two different places) and its not where the local Toyota dealership says it is. Tracking the fuel line from the filter back to the fuel tank is no pump. Could it be in the tank? This is the 5M-GE w/ac

Hi there,

The MX73-MX83 has an internal fuel pump mounted in the tank.

My '84 had the fuel pump outside the tank, mounted in front of the tank under the car. I had some significant performance issues with my cressida when I replaced the pump, however the issues were caused by a clogged filter screen located on the upstream side of the fuel pump. If I recall correctly, it had stuck inside the fuel line I had pulled off the pump, so I did not discover this until after I had the new pump installed.

You mention that it's a 5M-GE engine. If that's correct, you likely have an '84 model year, manufactured in late '83, if I'm not mistaken.
