Yesterday, my husband changed the oil on my car. This morning, my transmission started slipping when taking off from a stop, and even when I slow down and then press on the gas. It feels like I am in neutral and then it "kicks" in. After driving the car for about 15 minutes this morning, the check engine light came on. I checked the color of the transmission fluid and it is a light yellowish-brown color which indicates old fluid. Could it be as simple as changing the fluid or do I have a serious problem. There was no indication before today that there was a problem.

Thanks.

Is the trans. Fluid level full (engine running, in park)?

Check the owners manual but I believe the '03 does not require a scheduled trans. Fluid change.

Have your husband inspect the engine oil change, making sure he did not mistakenly remove the trans fluid plug rather than the oil pan plug.

You can have the engine PCM scanned at most autoparts stores for free to get engine codes.

But do not drive the car with a slipping trans for very long.
