I had a new cadilytic converter put in my Toyota
Corolla last December and now the motor sounds
louder when I accelerate. I asked a mechanic and
he said the converter that was installed is not like the original and that's why the motor sounds louder.

Is that true?

Was the convertor installed a universal or direct fit factory unit?

Was it bolted on or welded?

If welded, I would think an exhaust leak (it doesn't take much to make noise).

If bolted, the gaskets should have been changed.

Universal units are smaller and CAN be louder, but make sure it was installed properly, and not leaking.
