Transmission problem
1996 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi ,

I have 1996 toyota corolla. It suddenly stops when i easy the accelerator and speed near zero mile.

and all the indicators like battery, engine check, etc are come up.

But when I shut off and try to restart the car it will start the car.

Any help would be greatly appricated.

Fuel pressure is ok, and when it runs there is no check engine light on.

Hi again:

Something is causing it to shut down, but without the check engine light, it makes it more difficult. If I had to guess, I would say MAP sensor, but without a code, again that is a guess. IF you are sure the fuel pressure is good, here is what needs to be done. The vehicle will need to be checked with an onboard diagnostic scanner while it is being driven and acting up. THe scanner should identify what is causing the problem. I recommend this because there is such a long list of items that can cause this to happen. If you start replacing parts, you could have hundreds of dollars into parts that are not needed.

I wish I had an easier answer for you, but this is the reality of it.

Hi,

I checked the car they said you need to replace catalytic convertor.

Does it make sound ? and please let me know how much it cost me replace it ?

An aftermarket direct fit is around 150.00. Figure about 1 hour labor to install.

Hi,

I have 1996 toyoto corolla. Just i replaced muffler and catalytic coverter. But after 2 miles of drive
my engine led come up. Is there any thing wrong with the replacement.

If the light came on, the computer has a trouble code stored. It most likely deals with the work that was done based on your description. They may have forgotten to plug in an O2 sensor or something simple. What to do is this. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Most will do it for free, so there is no money out of pocket for you. Let me know what code they get and then I'll be able to help you identify where the problem is coming from.
