How we know that ECM has failed?
while running for one hour when I put the gear on nutral the engine goes off. Then I crank but for few times it goes off then I push the accelerator a little for it not to go off. Then it becomes normal. I get the problem when engine is hot.
my mechanic can not figure out whats wrong.

Check and test the idle air control valve, airflow meter and throttle position sensor to include the EGR and PCV valves.

ECM failure on OBDI cars is generally easy to detect, the car will BARELY run.
ECM will default to a set algoritim, where fuel and ignition are run from a preset group of parameters, and as I mentioned, it will run, BARELY.
