My car is very old, corolla 1991. I just noticed that I have to hold the steerig wheel to the left a little bit while I am driving on a straight lane, otherwise if I put the wheel right in the neutral position, the car will go off road to the right. What causes this problem? How to fix it. Just feel dangerous when driving it and very tiresome.

Hi there,

have the suspension & steering checked for wear, and make sure that the tyres are in good condition, often just swapping the front tyres left to right can fix this if it is just a bit of uneven tyre wear due to lack of rotations.

Thank you for your answer. I sent the car to a mechanic today, he test-drove it and said I need front wheel alignment. He doesn't do the alignment. The front tires are in bad condition. Steel reinforcemnt are exposed, so I got them replaced with new ones this morning. After that, it seems the problem goes away.
So my question is, Do I need do the alignment problem? Or check the wear in steering and suspension? Thanks

It is important that you get the checks & alignment done, as if there is even a small problem you can destroy your new tyres very quickly.
