I have a toyota corolla gts 1.6 dohc 4AGE engine with a/c and power steering. I was driving on the highway and I heard a squeeling noise, smelled a belt burning, then my alternator light came on. My heat gauge suddenly started rising and steam was coming out of my overflow hose from my overflow tank next to the radiator. I stopped the car and shut it off. My belt is gone thet connects from my waterpump pulley to my power steering pump to my alternator. Upon inspection, I noticed burnt rubber on the water pump pulley and the power steering pump pulley. The alternator pulley spins freely, the water pump is working(it is on a double pulley and the belts on the front are still intact), but my power steering pulley doesn't turn with my hand. The car will start without a problem, but since the battery is not charging I don't want to kill it. My question is did I seize my power steering pump"? And if so, can I just bypass it by removing the pulley from it for now. Putting more tension on the belt(alternator tension adjustment) and use armstong steering for now untill I can fix it? These are my two questions. Also Is their another way to know if I did seize my power steering pump. Thankyou for your time

HI there,

If you can't turn the power steering pump by hand then it is seized, as for by passing it that will be fine, check for a belt that is smaller and you should be fine until you can fix it properly.
