Windshield wipers suddenly stopped working

I have a 1986 GT with 189,000 miles. My windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. I know absolutely nothing about cars. Please explain as plainly as possible. I have been told to check the fuse. But I do not know where the fuse is for the wipers. I checked under the hood, but there were only fuses for the engine. I was told that the fuse box for the wipers was behind the driver side door panel. But there is no removable panel. Would I have to take the whole thing off. And if the fuse is not the problem, then what should I check next. If you really know the answer to my question you can reply here. Thank you so much to anyone who tries to answer my question.

If the fuse is not a problems, the next one is the switch and than the motor itself.

The wiper arm underneath the cowl could have fallen off of the rotation arm on the wiper motor. Check to see if you hear it running when you turn your wiper blades on. It will be located under your hood on the drivers side near the cowl. Check for noise to see if it is working then remove the motor and cowl and place the wiper arm back on motor. If there is no noise to begin with, the fuses should be underneath drivers side, look where your pedals to the left. If its not the fuses and the motor is not working, most likely you will have to replace the motor, but that is rare.
