I have toyota celica 1990 gt, manual, 220 k on it. The problem that I have is while shifting the gears, transmission grinds. Not every time, but only on the higher rpms(over 3000) and only second and third gear. Mechanic changed the oil and it was noticably beter for the next week or so and then it started again. The cluth is new so what could be the problem? Car is in overall excellent condition, one owner beside me but tranny has been rebuilt. PLS HELP

That year had both a cable and some had a hydraulic clutch system. Check your clutch free play. It should move about 1/2 inch before contacting. If it is hydraulic pump the clutch pedal befroe shifting and see if it gets better. If so then it if the hydraulic system. If all fails then you have an internal trannny problem.

Hi! My clutch has cable system and the freeplay seems to be fine but the thing is that while realeasing the cluth it catches all the way up but to switch the gear it has to be pressed all the way to the bottom. Does it matter or is that fine?

If you can deal with do so. The high release and low engage of a clutch indicates wear on both the disc and clutch cover. It is only a matter of time.
