My celica has a reman tranny and was working fine until the other day. I let it warm up and went to drive and it wouldnt shift out of 1st gear. The tranny fluid was about a qt over so I drained it until the levels were correct, fluid is proper color and smells as it should. Could the fact there was too much fluid send the computer into limp mode or is my problem bigger? How can I rectify this?

Hi there,

the trans being a little over full will not be a problem. I would do a scan to see if there's a fault code, but I feel you will need to visit a trans specialist as this my be an internal issue.

Hey thanks actually yesterday I ran into a neighbor who said something was stuck open/shut and while driving tacked it to 6 or 7 then dropped it into 2nd and back up, he repeated the process twice and now the car shifts fine. I'm still getting it checked out but I thought this info might make sense as to the problem. Why did this work?
