Hi there,
This is a very common complaint. What is happening is there is moisture trapped in the A/C system Water is drawn from the air (dehumidified) as a natural occurrence to the function of the A/C. This moisture is drained away via a drain tube, (you may see puddles of water under cars which have the A/C running) This tube may require cleaning. As a result of moisture in the system, mould starts to grow and this is where the smell comes from. You can buy over the counter duct treatment that you spray in and it kills the spores. But get the drain tube checked as well.
