My car drives ok in forward gears but is jerky when changing gears which can be a little harsh i.E not smoothly. I dont know if ths is normal byt my mail concern is it will go into reverse but hardly moves, you have to put alot of gas into it to ge a little movement. This problem has ben getting worse and I dont have a clue what to do. My mechanic says I should get it rebuilt.

any ideas

Most likely clutch pack failure. Is first gear good? What is fluid like any smell or discoloration?

Honestly nope-you can try the shifting solenoid thats assigned for that gear-that don't work then its time for rebuild.

When I start the engine, it works normally, but when I put the gear on drive or reverse it off the engine with a strong gripping force

What I mean is that, the engine runs normally, but when I when to put it on drive or reverse the engine vibrate and stop working, such that I cannot move it from where I packed it since two days back.

So engine start and you can give it gas no problem but as soon as you place the shifter in any gear will stall
what if u hold the gas paddle raise the RPM does it still stalls on u 2
check for bad coil
check fuel and fuel pressure still check axles

Here's a description of my problem. After the car is warmed up, I shift it into reverse and it doesn't go into gear right away, it does go into reverse after a few seconds. But not immediately like before. The same with forward, it takes up to 10seconds for the gears to engage, then it will stop engaging, and i'll just sit there. It will go back into gear, and once it's in gear, there's no grinding that I hear. This really does concern me, transmissions are spendy, and im disabled and have to plan ahead for the repair. Well anyway, any advice or help is appreciated, the car has about 120k miles on it. And it has always been cared for. Thanks for any help you can give.

Check fluid level in trans and make sure it is full. Fluid level in trans. Should be checked with engine running and car in park.

If OK, I would change trans filter, and add fluid to proper level.

Also check shift cable, make sure it is not loose or missing any retaining clips.

If condition persists, you will have to have a trans. Shop check it out.

Hi,

We need help/advice.

We have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE with over 80,000 miles. Car has been in good shape since.

Just today, as we attempted to drive our car, the forward gears worked fine; however although we can change it to reverse gear, the car does not move into reverse gear.

Any help would be appreciated

Is the car an automatic or stick shift. Is the problem getting it into gear? Or will it go in gear and simply not going anywhere?

Did you resolve that no reverse problem? I have a 2000 Camry with the same problem, all of a sudden, no reverse. I shift into reverse & engine revs, but no movement, no problem in drive. Automatic

Hello,

Yes it sounds like the reverse gear shift solenoid or a speed sensor has gone out and needs to be replaced.

Here is a diagram to show you how to get the job done. (Below)

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken
