Transmission problem
1998 Toyota Camry Automatic 220000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
This car has a lot of miles on it but rides and runs beautifully except for the transmission fluid leaking. It has no shifting problems at all unless it runs out of fluid. It was driven 1/2 mile with little or no transmission fluid. Once we added some and let it sit it would go in reverse but not drive. Have we totally screwed up the transmission? It's just hard to believe since it's never had any type of shifting problems. I can't afford a huge repair bill!!

Hi groach,

Did you add enough ATF?

The front clutch could have been burnt due to insufficient ATF and if that happens, sorry to say this, you need to replace the trans unless you want to consider rebuilding it which would be more costly.

Oil leaking normally are minor problems which could have be solved easily but can blow up to major proportions if not taken care of in time.
