Engine problem
1991 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 146, xx miles

I have a 91' Toyota Camry DX with a 4cyl. 3S-FE engine. Recently I decided to check the MAS (mass air flow sensor) and after inspecting it, it looked fine. It wasn't dirty or anything so I reassembled it. I started it back up and the engine was misfiring instantly. I took it to 2 shops and they both said that it was a bad distributor and I would need that, new spark plug wires, spark plugs, rotor and distributor cap. They wanted $650 so I put on the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs in myself and went to the junk yard to pick up a distributor off a Camry with low miles. I got the local vo-tech to put it on and it continues to misfire. The whole ignition system is pretty much completely new and it still is missing and dumping fuel. It gets around 8 MPG, bogs out when I accelerate, idle is up and down, and it smells of raw fuel. Another thing is that when I first start it in the morning with a cold engine he car idles and seems completely fine even though the CHECK ENGINE light is on. It'll idle fine for about 3 minutes and up until the engine warms up a bit that when the car automatically starts revving up and down at idle. When I finally do put it into drive it bogs down but once I get it past 1500 RPM it seems to run like normal and the check engine light disappears until I let go of the gas again. Once the car is close to normal running temp. The light goes away and won't come back up until I start it cold again. I don't know what else it could be and am about to give up. Any ideas?

Hi.

The 1991 Toyota computer system was set up to only turn the check engine light on if there was a short to or a complete open is a sensor circuit, or a fuel system so far out of spects it could not control it.

At this point you need to have the computer system diagnosed by a component tech.

Where do I start? So many things before the comp. Have to check them all. Likely the farm or ignitor.
