After removal of the bolt which bolts down the crankshaft pulley. We found that we could pull the crankshaft pulley off by hand, instead of using the puller like our repair manual said. Also there is a key way grove in the middle of the pulley, but not on the crank end. We bought the vehicle used so is there anyway that some one could of substituted a different pulley. If not please explain why there is no matching key on the crank end

Hi there,

If the key was not there, the pulley would of been slipping on the crankshaft, sometimes these keys are worn as a resault of a loose or worn balancer. These worn keys will fall out as soon as the balancer is removed. Check the key way on the balancer is not flogged out (common problem) but install a key when you re fit.
