Thermostat in 1996 Nissan Maxima GXE

Where is the thermostat in my car? I need to remove and replace. I have found different info on the web as far as following the top or bottom radiator hose and I need clarification. Thank you.

Normally it is off the top rad hose it is on the back side of engine (driver's side) see pic.
