Engine makes noise when warm and in drive. Noise only comes when keeping the rpm steady between 1100-1500. When accelerator is pressed harder noise does not come at all. I have been to mechanic but they cannot tell what the noise is.

Thanks.

Okay, you say the noise is there only between 1100-1500. Is the noise still there if you shift down a gear manually but keep the rpm the same? Any noise in reverse? How about if you just hold the rpm's at a steady 1200 or so?

Does turning the steering wheel change the sound? What about with the AC on or off?

Hi Steve

As long as rpm stays between 1100-1400 it makes noise. AC or manually shifting gear doesn't matter. It starts at 1100 rpm gets louder till 1400 rpm and then vanishes.

How long has it been making this noise? If it just started it is possible it is timing chain related. If you take a piece of garden hose, hold one end up to your ear and slowly move the other end around over the engine you should be able to find the area that it is loudest. Sounds are difficult to diagnose without having the vehicle to listen to.
