Hello,
Your vehicle being a four cylinder suggests that this is a diesel engine.
From your description it sounds like the fuel supply might be affected.
Your vehicle is equipped with an electrical pre supply pump in the fuel tank and a mechanical high-pressure pump at the engine.
The most likely scenario is that the pre supply pump is possibly defective.
This pump is similar to the fuel pump used in the V6 petrol versions.
See picture below.

To check if the electric pre supply pump is defective you can check the fuel flow at the fuel filter inlet, see image 2 below.
The fuel filter is located in the engine compartment underneath the brake master cylinder.
Remove the inlet pipe, thicker of the two, and put the pipe in a container. Next cycle the ignition and see if a steady stream of fuel is emitted. If no fuel comes out this means that the in-tank pump is either not being activated or is not switching on. To check if the fuel pump is getting a 12V supply, access the fuel pump and disconnect the connector with the green and black wires. The green wire supplies 12V from the fuel pump relay.
Using a test light or voltmeter you can test if the 12V supply is in order.
