I just got a car from a co-worker. a 1992 Subaru Loyale, w/ 103K miles. She got stuck in a snow bank, and "rocked" it out. Now the reverse doesn't do anything. AND the car now moves in neutral ! (it seems to be in 1st gear) I thought bent linkage, but I cant tell. When slowly shifting between positions, reverse doesn't work anywhere. BUT in between reverse and PARK the car trys to move forward again.

Hi rkhmaine,

Thank you for the donation.

It is possible the shift cable or linkages have been damaged causing the shift positions to be out when shifting into position.

Get the cable and linkages checked first.

Alternatively the transmission is bad, one of the clutches inside the trans has failed and when this occurs, you would not have any reverse.
