2000 Subaru Legacy Car Stalls Once or twice on warm up then

I start the car, its sounds fine, I let it warm up for a couple of minutes, no problem. I drive down the road 1km and at the first t junction I get complete engine failure, drops like a stone from 2,000 rpm to dead.

I start it again, sometimes takes 2 goes but not usually. I drive off and its like a new car all day. 1 time out of ten it does it again at the next t junction.

I live in Norway and its the same in all weather conditions -20 to +20

I also have LPG conversion on the car and its the same whether I turn that off or on.

Its been doing it every day for over a year. Problem doesn't get worse or better.

US models have a bad harness to the TPS(throttle position sensor) and once replaced cures most hesitation and stalling, but if your check engine light is on, have the codes read first, this is a 2-3 hour job, by an experienced tech!

Thanks for reply, would a faulty TPS harness explain why it only does it once a day?

Well I couldn't say without knowing how the conversion was done? The other possibility is the MAF sensor is dirty, or the ECT(engine coolant temp) sensor. The TPS usually acts up several times a day. The ECT acts like a choke of sorts for EFI cars. The other thing is, when was the last tune up? 158,000, it may need a fresh set of plugs and wires. Does the check engine light come on?

No Engine Check Light, Car has had service in the last 12 months. I think based on your reply the problem is most likely the ECT sensor as the symptons are the same as putting the choke in too early on an old car.

Should I attempt to clean the ECT or do I take it to the garage for a check/replace?

ECT is NOT repairable or cleanable, it's an electronic resistor device.
