About a week ago I was making a tight, right hand turn in my vehicle and a popping sound came from my front left tire area. After that incident that side (front, left) of the car would rumble when I drove and continue to make popping and grinding sounds when I turned (especially when I turned left). Then just yesterday I went to pull out of a parking space and heard a final pop and then my car was unable to move in either direction anymore. When I hit the gas pedal I can hear something spinning, and it takes several seconds for the spinning to stop even if I put the car back into neutral. Can anyone tell me what has gone wrong with my car? What needs to be done to fix it and about how much does it usually cost?

The cv joint broke. The spinning you hear is the axle spinning. With front wheel drive the axle will just spin. If you are not mechanically inclined then the best thing is have a shop replace it. Depending where you go the arebuilt axle will run anywhere from $75 to up over $140.00. Some shop use there own supplier that is why the cost varies. On the price to put it in can vary from garage to garage. Check out prices before you make a decision.
