We took our car to Wal-Mart this morning for an oil change and they told us our car was 2 quarts short on oil. They couldn't see any leaks, so they told us it was burning oil. What should we do next? I was hoping we could keep this car for the next 3 years or more but I don't want to keep a car where the motor may blow up. Thank youl.

Hi there,

how long was it since you last changed the oil or checked it? When oil is getting old and full off contaminants it tends to burn off as it is more diluted, I would at this stage, just do an oil consumption test, that is check that the level is correct and it a bit high, not how high above the make it is or add if a little low, drive for a few weeks and note the distance traveled, re check the oil and if low, slowly add oil to the noted mark, use an old kitchen measuring jug so you know exactly how much you have added, this will give you the oil consumption over the distance traveled, do this for around 1000 km before checking and report the readings here for an evaluation.
