Stops running when transmission is shifted into gear

Hi,

When it stalls, does it seem to be lurching forward or backwards or does it seem like a low idle related issue?

If it seems to be idling low, first check for engine vacuum leaks. Here is a link that shows how it is done:

Also, is the check engine light staying on when it is running? If so, you need to have the computer scanned. Most parts stores can do a basic test, but since the vehicle isn't driveable, see if you can find a parts store that will lend or rent one to you.

Okay, when I crank it it will idle but when I put it in gear reverse neutral drive it shuts off.

When it idles in neutral or park, can you rev the engine? Also, does it just shut off or does it feel like the vehicle jumps forward?
