In the last few days all four of the top buttons on my steering wheel that control my factory radio have stopped working. The radio still works fine if I reach over and turn the knobs, the bottom four buttons that control the DIC still work, I don’t have an airbag light, so I know it’s not the clock spring. Is there something else that powers those four buttons, a fuse I’m missing, a wire that broke, something? Yes, I know I can reach over and do it manually, but it’s nice to be able to hit the mute button with my thumb when I get a call being that I use the truck for work I’m in it all the time.

Hi,

I would be happy to help. I just went into the audio wiring schematics to see what you are dealing with and found multiple options for the OEM systems.

I need you to take a look at the pics below and let me know which system you have. Also, keep in mind this could be an issue related to the body control module or the steering wheel control module.

Let me know.

Joe

Honestly, I’m not sure from that pic all I can tell you is it's the Bose stereo with CD built in not the one with CD lower in the center console like some, smaller subwoofer under the center console not the subwoofer in the hatch area side wall, and there is some buttons on the back of the center console for the rear passengers but not sure what it even does in all these years I’ve never messed with it.

I’m guessing it could either be the 1st on that list or 3rd, idk.

Hi,

As far as your description, it sounds like you have number 3. As far as the power source for the controls is concerned, it is provided by the body control module.

If you look at the attached pic, the power supply from the BCM is provided via a dark blue wire. Are you able to check it for power?

Here is a link that you may find helpful:

Let me know if this is something you feel comfortable doing.

Take care,

Joe

Yeah, I think so, I am looking for pin a2 in the gray harness from what I can see online. I’ll get the bottom of the dash torn apart and check it sometime this weekend. Thank you.
