Hi, I have a customer that had their rack replaced at a nearby shop and said his rack doesn’t return to center. Said it did before the steering rack replacement and thinks it was a defective rack. So, we replaced the rack because he didn’t want to go back to the other shop. The steering rack still doesn’t return to center. It doesn’t even try to return it will do circles if you let it
The car is lowered and has 19” wheels on the back and 18 on the front but customer states this was like this before, and rack did return to center
Things we’ve checked:
Perfectly aligned toe.
Strut mounts are free moving.
Lower Ball joints are free moving and new.
Tie rods are new.
Power steering does work but it does seem to have a slightly increased effort while sitting still, pump does not whine or make noise, and you can turn it with one hand still.
I’ve tried adjusting the pinion load on the rack and it does not change anything in either direction.
The wheels do track back to straight in reverse but not forward.
