the steering is hard to turn especially turning to the left. i put a new pump, but does same thing. any idea what could be my problem?

Hey Barbara,
The steering box has gone out, what happens it the selector valve inside the box goes out only allowing pressure to get to one half of the box which causes the box to only work one way.
Here is a video that will show you what you are in for when replacing it on a similar car with diagrams below to show you how on your car.
