Starts and shuts off and check engine light is on

my car cranks and then shuts off and will only start up and move after tapping the accelerator and revving it and the engine check light in now on. if i start it in the morning after putting the key on it starts well, but during the day the problem comes.

The first thing you need to do is perform a check engine light code scan to retrieve the code or codes that are stored in your cars computer. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved on how to perform a scan-code read:
