Hi, this is a general question about manual transmission cars and the relationship between rpm and the rod bearings specifically.

If a manual car accidentally takes off from a stop in third gear instead of first gear I understand this will cause extra wear on the clutch, but will it damage the rod bearings?

Two techs I have asked say 'no' and that rod bearings are almost always damaged by lack of oil or contaminated oil.

Your thoughts? Thanks in advance!

As you were advised at the other site, the advice you have been given is correct.

That is correct. Starting in third gear is not going to do any damage to the engine or transmission, just the clutch.
