Two weeks ago, I replaced the starter on my 99 Ford Contour. I was able to start and drive with no problems for three days. Then my wife went to start the car and now it cranks but will not turn over. I have checked all wires and hoses as well as the fuses and relays-still cranks but will not turn over. I have noticed that I no longer here the fuel pump 'hum' when I start the car, but darned if I know why not or how to fix it. I am a novice at best when it comes to diagnosing and fixing car problems.
I know that the starter was bad because I had it tested. I know that it was put in correctly because it ran for three days after. Something must have happened between the replacement and the three days to cause this new problem.

If the starter is turning then the engine should be turning over but I guess it is not firing up? You should have the fuel pressure checked to see if there is fuel going to the fuel rail and check for spark. If there is no fuel pressure then remove the side panel on the drivers side by the hood release. The fuel pump inertia switch should be located behind the side cover. There is a button on there. If the button popped up the fuel pump will not come on. Pressing down on the button will start the fuel pump again. What pops the button up is sometimes people bump into the car hard enough to make it pop up. If it is ok then you will need to have it towed to a shop to properly diagnose why your vehicle does not fire up. Good luck to you and keep us posted please.

That was it! Thank you. Strange that it happened so soon after replacing the starter.
