Two weeks ago, I replaced the starter on my 99 Ford Contour. I was able to start and drive with no problems for three days. Then my wife went to start the car and now it cranks but will not turn over. I have checked all wires and hoses as well as the fuses and relays-still cranks but will not turn over. I have noticed that I no longer here the fuel pump 'hum' when I start the car, but darned if I know why not or how to fix it. I am a novice at best when it comes to diagnosing and fixing car problems.
I know that the starter was bad because I had it tested. I know that it was put in correctly because it ran for three days after. Something must have happened between the replacement and the three days to cause this new problem.
