Stalled out while driving, tried to jump start it, all it would do is starter spinning. Had it towed home, replaced starter, crankshaft sensor and key switch module. Getting 12.35V at battery and check grounds, fuses and relays and it still just spins at starter. Unsure what it could be?

Hi,

Do you mean the starter spins but doesn't engage with the flywheel/engine? Is it possible for you to record it and upload it for me to see?

If what I described above is correct, the starter is bad. There is 12v from the battery direct to the starter. A smaller wire (trigger wire) provides 12v only when the key is in the start position. So, there isn't anything separate that causes the starter to engage.

Here is a link that explains how to test the starter. Take a look through it.

Now, if the engine is turning and not starting, try this. See if it will start for a couple of seconds and then stall if you use starting fluid. If it does, then we know it's a fuel-related issue. If it still doesn't even try to start, we need to recheck ignition components.

Here are three links. One explains how to check for spark to the engine, one is for checking fuel pressure, and one is general for a crank no start condition.

Replace with another new starter, still not turning over. I checked flywheel no broken teeth on fly wheel.

Hi,

Nothing is wrong with the starter. I suspect the engine has no compression. I have a feeling one of the timing chains has broken, which is odd.

Do me a favor, have a helper watch the crankshaft pulley (bottom of the engine and will have the serpentine belt on it) to see if it is turning when you engage the starter. If it is, I need you to perform a compression test. Here is a link that shows how it is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-engine-compression

I have a feeling you will find little to no compression. To make it worse, this is an interference engine. Basically, if the timing is off, it will cause internal damage to the engine. It's usually cheaper to find a good used engine than it is to repair the old one.

Let me know what you find. Also, if you have other questions, let me know.

Belt and pulleys turning, guess it jump timing, will do compression test next.

Hi,

I'm 99% sure that is what happened. You can try the compression test, but I suspect there will be little to no compression.

Let me know what you find.
