Stabil track needs service warning light flashes and all power blinks off/on and steering wheel is jerked out of hand. If you try to turn it, it will repeat the sequence above. It will eventually shut the truck down and not restart automatically like it does in the original statement. It can be immediately restarted and runs as if nothing ever happened.

Hi,

Is it only the stability control light that is coming on? If that is the case, there could be an issue in the steering column. That is a theory at this point. Does anything happen if you turn off the stability/traction control?

What I am going to recommend is to have the can-bus scanned for codes. I'm suggesting that because there are a few different things that could be causing the issue and if we start replacing parts, it can be expensive and not fix the issue.

CAN stands for controller area network. Basically, all the different modules are tied together via a few wires. This type of scan will retrieve codes regardless of the module storing them.

Here is a link that explains how it is done:

Keep in mind, this could be something as simple as a wheel speed sensor that is failing. The traction control, stability, and ABS are all tied together. That is why we should scan it first.

Let me know if you have this done and what codes are found.

Take care,

Joe

The first thing we need to do is do a CAN scan which is easy. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how:

and

Or you can do an ABS system scan.

It sounds like a bearing hub is going out which is where the wheel speed sensor is. The sensor cannot read correctly when the hub is misaligned. Here is how to change the front bearing hub out in the images below in case you need it. The problem could also be the BCM which would cause both of these issues, but the scan is needed to be sure. This video shows the job being done on an older truck, but the procedure is the same:

Here is how to change out the BCM if the codes come back that it is bad as well. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.
