speedometer does not always work

it works sometimes and sometimes it does not work. i bought the car with 18' wheels i did change the speed sensor, but the speedometer does not work. i have a check engine light that the shop told me is the speed sensor in the transmission. what do i do?

if there is a code for the speed sensor, either the sensor is faulty or there is a wiring problem from the sensor to the PCM, you will have to investigate both of these and make sure that the sensor plug is tight and secure,
