Can you put spark plug wires for a SOHC engine on a DOHC engine and if not why?

Its not really about how many camshafts it has, but more about the design of the whole deal. If the spark plug wire does not seat properly, have the correct length, or has a different resistance value then it will not work properly. I would just purchase the correct set for your application.
