More than likely we have a leak on that side of the engine.
The fact that is it not smoking until it gets hot shows that it is most likely an external leak.
This means if the smoke is white then that is most likely coolant.
Let's pressure test the system when the engine is cold and see if it holds a pressure for at least a few hours. If not then we need to find the leak and see where it is coming from.

More than likely the leak is dripping on the exhaust which will burn off any moisture or oil once it gets hot.
So it is important to inspect the exhaust on that side carefully.
