Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.
Most commonly, fuel lines will rust and begin leaking. First inspect under the car (driver's side) for any indication of a fuel leak (wet spot. While running you may see a drip)
Now, after the engine has been running, turn it off and open the hood. There are several things that can leak under the hood. A fuel faulty fuel pressure regulator, fuel injector, fuel supply hose. I attached pictures for you to see the different things to check for leaks. The first picture is where the fuel supply attaches to the fuel rail. This is on the top of the engine. The second picture is the fuel pressure regulator, and the third is a picture of the fuel rail with the injectors still attached to the rail. Check the injectors both on top at the rail and the bottom where they attach to the engine. Both ends have a small rubber o-ring that can fail and leak. Picture 4 is the sending unit that is at the top of the fuel tank. It attaches to the steel lines which send gas to and from the engine.
I do not know where you are located, but if rust is an issue, first check the steel lines as well as the filler tube to the tank. It is steel (where the gas pump goes) and they are known to rust between the fuel inlet and the tank.
Please keep in mind, any fuel leak is dangerous. Check the items I mentioned and let me know what you find.
Take care,
Joe
