Battery stopped being charged. I suspect it is a fault with the smart alternator talking to engine computer.

Trying to locate smart alternator within the engine bay and remove the appropriate smart lead. The alternator/belts are all working fine so I hope this is a software problem but removing smart lead will allow alternator to charge battery (at 14v not 12.5v) until I can get Peugeot to resolve.

Hi,

First, this vehicle isn't offered in the US, so I don't have specifics on it. However, a smart alternator really just takes the place of a traditional alternator. If you found the alternator belt, the smart alternator should be there as well.

Let me know. Also, I'm sorry that I don't have specifics on your vehicle. However, let me know if this helps. Also, let me know if the smart alternator is charging at all. If it is, what voltage is it producing at the battery?

Take care,

joe

Hello,

On your vehicle the alternator is located at the front of the engine just above the AC compressor.

The engine management system (ECM) is responsible for switching the alternator on/off, depending on load conditions and battery charge.

See illustration below, terminal L is the controlling input from the ECM.
There are only two wires at the alternator, a red main battery cable and the control wire from the ECM.

1010- starter
1020- alternator
1320- ECM

I would suggest first check that the control wire is not broken/disconnected.

Cheers, Boris
