Hi there,

I have the vehicle listed above GT-line, which I have purchased mid-2017.

My question is regarding the powered driver's seat and if the 'issue' that I am expecting is actually a defect or something that I have to live with because it is 'normal'.

When turning into corners, the seat moves lightly to the side and I can fee a little click of the seat.

Example: When turning left, the seat might move very slightly to the right and I can feel a click of the seat. When turning left again, the seat does not move. Only when then turning right, the seat might move to the left with the same slight movement and click.

I have been to my local dealer multiple times, they apparently changed the seat base, which unfortunately did not fix the issue.

I have had multiple cars with powered front seats, but have never experienced this issue before. I also had the chance to drive a friend's KIA Sportage GT-line of the same year, his car did not have the issue.

Can you please advise and let me know what to do?

Many thanks,

Nikolai

Welcome to 2CarPros.

First, it shouldn't do that. If you get no help from the dealer, I recommend calling Kia customer relations.

Next, there are four bolts that hold the seat base to the floor. I attached two pictures. Check these bolts and make sure they are tight. The first picture shows the front of the seat and second picture is the rear. The seat mounts the same on both sides of the vehicle.

If they are tight, there must be play in the track of the seat. Have a helper sit in the seat or rock it to simulate the issue while you watch for movement where the seat track comes together.

Do these things and let me know what you find. Also, if you could, let me know exactly what was replaced.

Take care,
Joe

Thanks for getting back this quickly. I will check out those screws. They replaced the 'seat base' last time, which did not include seat or mechanism that is responsible for the seat adjustment. Could there potentially be a fault or wear in the adjustment mechanism? One thing I also noticed is that the described issue does not seem to happen for a few KM after adjusting the seat. Could I ask KIA to replace the mechanism?

Welcome back:

If they only replaced the base (the part that bolts to the floor), then I don't believe the track was replaced, which is where the play could be.

Since the car is new, I would demand that it's repaired, even if it requires the entire seat, base, track, mechanism.... needs replaced. If they refuse to help, contact Kia Customer Relations. Tell them the movement in the seat scares you and may result in an accident. Trust me, they will get it fixed. The way I look at it is if the seat moves a bit, it may cause you to react in a way that could cause you to lose control of the vehicle. Then, who is responsible. Trust me, if you explain that to them, there will not be any question.

I looked up Kia's customer relations number on Google. Here is what I found for you:

Kia Customer Service - Kia Motors America
https://www.kia.com/us/en/content/contact-kia/customer-support
Customer Support. We want you to have the type of driving experience that makes you look forward to getting behind the wheel of your Kia. So, if there's ever anything we can do to help, give us a call at 1-800-333-4KIA (4542).

It indicated if there is ever anything they can do to help, to call. If the dealer doesn't help, call that number. Have your vehicle identification number ready (VIN).

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Take care,
Joe
