I am having a small knocking sound that's noticeable to me but faint. It goes away after a couple minutes or once the engine is brought up over 1500 RPMs for a couple seconds then the sounds goes away until the motor sits overnight. I think it might be a lifter draining and once it refills its fine. Just wanted to know your opinion on if it could cause major engine issues since I have a long trip next week and this just started.

Hi,

If it goes away that quickly, certainly it could be a lifter issue. If you are barely able to hear it, I personally wouldn't be too concerned. Just make sure the engine oil remains clean and full. Keep in mind, based on the mileage, it could also be a bearing that is wearing. As the engine heats up, the metal components expand allowing the sound to stop.

Other than low oil pressure and based on your description, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Let me know if that helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe
