The oil was changed, and a gallon of oil replaced. I went to start the car and it was shuttering, immediately shut it off. Oil light was on before oil changed.

Hi,

Is the oil light still on? Prior to the oil change, were there any engine noises that didn't seem normal? Also, are there any noises now?

If so, take a look through this link and let me know if anything mirrors what you experience.

Also, is the check engine light staying on when the engine is running?

Let me know.

As soon as it started shuttering, I shut it off. When I checked the oil after refilling it, it seemed like it was overfilled which shouldn't be since 4 quarts which is how much suppose to go in. I have been afraid to start it since it doesn't seem like the oil hasn't gone into the engine like it should.

Hi,

If the oil filter was replaced, remove it and replace it with a different one. As far as the oil level is concerned, if it doesn't circulate, it will indicate it's too high because it hasn't filled the oil filter. When you remove the filter, see if it is full of oil or not.

At that point, we need to start it to see if the problem still exists. If the light is on, pay attention to see if there is any ticking or knocking from the engine. If there is, shut it down. We will need to check the oil pump at that point.

If you have a scan tool, see if there are diagnostic trouble codes present prior to restarting the engine and let me know what they are.

Let me know what you find.
