Should I keep up dealer maintenance?

Normally I would shy away from a vehicle with 200,000 miles on it, but the previous owners did everything at the Honda dealer and kept every record. I got a literal thick folder of stuff when I bought it. It was well taken care of, and all maintenance was done on time, no expense spared. The only reason they traded it was due to getting a brand-new Odyssey.

My question is, as someone who can't afford to go to the dealer for everything, am I okay doing most things on my own? I plan on taking it in for complex tasks like timing belt and stuff, but will I be missing out doing oil changes/brakes and similar maintenance at home on my own?

I know most shops inspect certain items (I've read in these maintenance records that the dealer checked stuff I'd never think to look at) when doing maintenance, and I don't want to miss anything simple that can be avoided. Thoughts?

Hi,

You should be fine. If you still have the owner's manual, continue following the maintenance schedule. If you are worried about doing something, let us know and we will help direct you.

Whether it is done at the dealership or at home, as long as it gets done, you should be fine.

Feel free to stop back any time in the future if you have questions or need help.

Take care of yourself,

Joe
