I removed the transmission to replace front seal and torque converter. The only linkage that was removed was where the rod select lever connects to the cross shaft lever. Now I can not get linkage to line up correctly. With transmission in park and column shift in park it is like the rod lever is too short. If I move column select to neutral it almost connects. Moving column to drive connects but then everything is upside down backwards from what it should be. Obviously I am missing something. The rod was removed with transmission/column in park. I assumed it would just go back together that way and should have marked the position. Any help or even a picture of correct linkage position would be appreciated.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Here are the directions for linkage adjustment. See if it helps. The attached picture 1 correlates with these directions. First, column shift.

1. Place selector lever in Park range.
2. Loosen locknuts, Fig. 8
3. Tighten locknut A until it touches trunnion, pulling selector lever toward reverse range side without pushing button.
4. Back off locknut A two turns and torque locknut "B" to 8-11 ft. Lbs.
5. Move selector lever from Park range to 1 range. Ensure lever moves smoothly.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,
