Shift trouble

Transmission is four speed automatic/manual. I can shift manually first through forth gear at any rpm, but in "D" auto position it will only shift to next gear at four thousand each. I hear these transmissions have a shift module, could this be the problem?

all newer cars have a module have a transmission scan for codes because it may not be a module problem may be a valve body problem. also, check all fuses under hood as well.
