Okay, so I just bought this car and don't want to put much into it as it's just a get me by car. But I noticed recently shaking occurs more in my seat then the wheel but a little of both. The shaking does not occur when driving below 2,000 RPMs but when I go above it seems to shake. This happens most often at 40-60 MPH. The car has been washed so no snow build up or ice (live in MI) and based on research feel it could be axle shaft or CV joints as well as tire balance but feel it's unlikely that right as I don't feel the shaking in neutral park or below 2,000 RPMs. I could have the tires balanced but after that want to make the most logical choice as to not replace or fix things that don't need. So which should I check first that's the most likely culprit? Thanks for your time and help.

Hi,

Interestingly, when you feel it more in the body of the vehicle (seat in this case), it is related to a rear wheel. However, the RPM's don't make sense if it was tire balance or a bent wheel, but I would check for both of those.

As far as a CV joint, that is possible. Is there any clicking when making a sharp turn? Do me a favor, take a look through this link, and let me know if anything matches what you experience. Note that the link is for the replacement of one, but it explains what goes wrong.

I do have one more question. Do you notice the vibration when accelerating or does it go away if you leave off the throttle?

Let me know. Also, let me know if you have other questions.

Take care and God Bless,

Joe
