Error code 73 on a 1986 Subaru Brat is related to the vehicle's transmission control system. Specifically, code 73 indicates a problem with the pressure control solenoid circuit.

The pressure control solenoid is responsible for regulating the hydraulic pressure in the transmission. If there is a problem with this solenoid or its circuit, it can cause various transmission-related issues, including harsh shifting, slipping, and poor performance.

To fix code 73, you will need to diagnose and repair the underlying issue that is causing the solenoid circuit malfunction. Here are some steps you can take:

Inspect the wiring and connections: Start by inspecting the wiring and connections associated with the pressure control solenoid. Look for any damaged or corroded wires, loose or disconnected connections, or other signs of wear.

Test the solenoid: Next, you can test the pressure control solenoid to determine if it is functioning correctly. A diagnostic scanner can help you read the solenoid's resistance and voltage values to ensure they are within the manufacturer's specifications.

Replace the solenoid or repair the wiring: Depending on the results of your tests, you may need to replace the pressure control solenoid or repair any damaged wiring or connections.
