We have screeching that started while driving the car last night from the front brakes. Took the tire off, got a small piece of dirt off the brake pad and pushed the cover back to make sure it wasn't hitting anything. Spun everything around and could barely hear anything, however when we put the tire back on the metal scraping noise stated while tightening the lug nuts. Also when brakes were applied last night the noise stopped. We did just install an air lift suspension system which seems to be working fine.

Is the noise still there when pressing the brakes? If it is still there then I suspect you need to replace the pads and rotors. However, we need to measure the thickness and go from there.

Either way, even if the brakes are not worn out if you have dirt and grooves in the rotors then you are going to have to replace them or at least scuff up the pads and turn the rotors to give it a fresh surface.

Let me know if you have questions. Thanks

It's stopped when brakes were applied, we were going 30-40 ish if that makes a difference. When we jacked the car up and tried moving the tire up and down/left to right it barely budged. The axle can be spun barely a fraction of an inch. The sound last night was loud as can be metal on metal.

You may be hearing the pads dragging on the rotors. Can you get a quick video of the noise as you are hearing it and we should be able to confirm this? Also, get a picture as good as you can of the pads on the rotors and we should be able to determine if it is the pads.

That is what this sounds like but hearing it should be able to help narrow this down. Thanks

Looks like you were correct! We spent a few hours taking everything apart and cleaning and scruffing it up a bit and it seems to do the job. Going to get new brakes here shortly. Thank you, thank you!
