Hi,
First, my oil cooler went we by passed it and flushed the cooling system as well replaced the radiator due to it going bad in the process we also replaced all the hoses. It ran rough when returned and then after a few weeks when I would go to start it up after doing errands it wouldn' t start if the engine was warm. Also I noticed that during these times that it wouldn' t start that the fuel gauge wasnt working (if the fuel gauge showed proper when the key was in the on position [just before you crank over] that it would start). At first it was an intermittent thing but then got worse. Sometimes it would just stall while driving or sometimes the gas pedal would rev on its own while driving. Eventually it just stopped starting. I read you answers to the other guy about the crank shaft position sensor and thought that it might have been acting wonky because of oil that was dripping down once the engine got hot causing it to act up, at first spraying degreasor on it helped. Until it didnt. When the car is hoked up to a code reader it reads nothing (prior to the bypass of the oil cooler it read tons of codes, but cant seem to locate the images I took of them). I was also told that I needed a new ecm. My intuition told me to dig deeper.
The car sat for awhile and I tried to sell it people even told me to junk it but I just feel like its fixable. We did try a new crank shaft position sensor and that didn' t seem to work. Recently my fiance is in need of a vehicle (due to the death of his mountainer) so we' ve been trying to figure things out as wallet friendly as possible. We did recently replace the throttle body or rebuilt it I should say and the car has a much smoother pur in an idle. But prior to that we figured out that if we unplugged the wires going to the throttle body that the car would start but was really rough. Since the rebuild of the TB it sounds more like it did before the death of the oil cooler. So here' s where we are, the car will start if the wires are unplugged from the TB but when plugged back in the car die a when you try to accelerate. There are 166k miles on her and she has had (in the past 3 years) a new timing belt and component, a new radiator, and a new *get back to you on the last one Info is in the barn, will get in the am*appologies*
I' m hoping you can assist in some ways. I did see for sale the exact same car being sold for 400obo has a blown engine but I was thinking maybe I could use any good parts ie: ecm.
What are your thoughts? Also I' m a girl and I tend to speak in girl lingo such as sounds and feelings and such. Hope your patient with a bit of understanding humor. Thanks so much greatly looking forward to your reply.

Also, after doing more reading I'm wondering if the EGR system might have something to do with all my troubles?

First off the eye valve won't effect your gas gauge. As far as the only starting with the gauge working that sounds like your typical bad body control module. Have seen that a lot on those cars It's extremely common for the body control module to go bad on those cars and cause a ton of all different symptoms when they go bad.I have even seen where you couldn't talk to the ecm when they go bad. They have a repair service to fix them. As far as bypassing the oil cooler I wouldn't do that it was designed to work with a oil cooler.
