1997 Saturn SL2 Check Engine Now light just came on

I have had no problems with my Saturn. But I see if I do not do a oil change exactly at 3,000 miles or 3 months I need to add oil. I am over due for a oil change but this time my Check engine light came on. I did add oil about 200 to 300 miles ago. I was going into getting it done in a week. Where can I get this light check that it can be free or next to nothing.

Most auto part stores will scan your vehicle's engine codes free of charge.
